Outline of the Online Seal Programme

Object:
Marketers conducting e-commerce to consumers on the internet.

Purpose:
Sound progress of direct marketing on the internet and consumer protection. For this purpose, we decided to start an online shopping trust mark programme, where marketers authorised online by JADMA and the JCCI will display the Online Shopping Trust Mark to make it clear to consumers that they are reputable marketers.

Outline of the Programme

Authorisers:
Japan Direct Marketing Association
Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry
* Online Shopping Trust Mark Committee (composed of experts from consumer representatives, government, JADMA, JCCI and academia) is in charge of supervision.

Terms and Conditions for Accreditation of the Online Shopping Trust Mark:
* Those who have an operating office physically in Japan.
* Those who have been engaged in the direct marketing business using the Internet for more than a year as of the date of application.
* Those who made a firm commitment to all compliance to the terms and conditions of Online Shopping Trust Mark Programme.

Admission Conditions:
1. Display of descriptions on the following items as set forth in the Specified Commercial Transactions Law:
(1) Name of the online shop
(2) Geographical address
(3) Telephone number(s)
(4) Sales price
(5) Other cost including delivery charge, etc.
(6) Method and conditions of payment
(7) Delivery date
(8) Return policy
(9) Name of the person in charge

2. Compliance to all the relevant laws and regulations
*such as the Laws Concerning Door-to-door Sales and the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations

3. Verification of physical presence

4. Practice of a return policy

5. Providing various payment measures

6. Conformity of products and services for sale with public order and morals

7. A publicised and accessible customer service operation
